It's a beautiful thing when life works out in your favor but 2 Chainz formerly known as Tity Boi had to work very hard to get to this point. Straight from out of the Atlanta music scene to get to this point in his career, he has worked for many years with the Dungeon Family and has a long history of being friend with New Orleans Rap star Lil Wayne. 2 Chainz has definitely circled the bases of the music industry before finally getting his spot.
Rap or Go the League was a great culmination of who 2 Chainz is. A grown man now who is able to look at himself when he was younger and begin to dialogue about why he was the way he was when he was younger. Seeing that for him along with many countless other young black males growing up in the urban communities of America believed that there only options to get out of their perilous environments was to either make it pro in some professional sports league or become a rap entertainer.
On this album it opened with a great intro and finished with a poem that summarized the entirety of this project and the feeling of black young males in America. The notion that they are beloved for their physical attributes and talents but never are loved for just being a human being. If you are not contributing to society for entertainment purposes then you as a young black male were seen as a threat or a problem more than you were seen as just a human or citizen. 2 Chainz also contributed upon that thought with stating on this album as sort of a PSA that "if you are doing anything that could lead to your mother having to bury you, it's not a good look". Which is sort of a beckoning call for young black males in society to look at their choices and see how it affects those around them in its entirety from both sides of the spectrum.
Ultimately the music itself was typical 2 Chainz. Rhyme schemes were still the same along with 2 Chainz delivering unintentional lyricism, with wit, comedy and outside the box metaphors. All of which helps to make the 2 Chainz brand unique. This album was not meant to deliver some gut-wrenching and thought provoking message to the degree of a spirited Kendrick Lamar album but it still delivered more of a message than previous 2 Chainz work. Which personally makes me excited because you look for the elders in life and in the rap game to become more of the wise men to the younger generation of listeners and rappers. So it was wonderful see that 2 Chainz is stepping into this role in his own way. Loud but yet keeping it subtle! All in all it was an easy listen as a project with great features but nothing to call classic but I'm sure that was not what 2 Chainz was going for!
